Wasteful Orlando Pirates Stumble at AmaZulu in Betway Premiership

Orlando Pirates FC suffered a 1-1 draw against AmaZulu FC in the Betway Premiership, with the Buccaneers struggling to maintain their winning start to the season.

The Buccaneers settled quite quickly in the contest, which resulted in the opening goal as former Usuthu winger Tshepang Moremi found the back of the net with a first-time finish from 12 yards out to make it two goals in two league games after Wilfried Kouassi could not hold on to Yanela Mbuthuma's cross.

The early goal certainly set the tone for the contest, where Arthur Zwane's charges struggled to get the ball off their Soweto counterparts, which was reminiscent of last season's meetings as goalkeeper Sipho Chaine barely had a serious saved to make.

The Buccaneers, meanwhile, had chances to extend their lead before the interval but it was Usuthu who got their reward on the stroke of halftime when Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya converted a penalty after Kamogelo Sebelebele was deemed to have fouled Mondli Mbanjwa in the box.

The Buccaneers continued to dominate in the second period against an AmaZulu outfit, who did not alter their approach to the contest despite finding the equaliser just before the halftime break.

As a result, coach Abdeslam Ouaddou responded with a double change as Appollis, Deon Hotto and speedy winger, Kabelo Kgositsile came on to replaced Moremi, Ndaba and Sebelebele for the final 25 minutes of the contest in Durban.

Pirates' Ouaddou would not have been happy after already losing midfielder Sihle Nduli to an injury, as the midfielder was on the receiving end of a nasty challenge by Ngwenya, who only received a yellow card from the referee.

Nevertheless, Pirates had chances to restore their lead in the latter stages of the second half, with Boitumelo Radiopane going closest in the final ten minutes with a header that was turned away by Kouassi as Usuthu held out for a point.
