Orlando Pirates FC tightened the Premier Soccer League title race with a commanding 3-0 victory over TS Galaxy at Orlando Amstel Arena on Tuesday night. The win lifts the Buccaneers to 22 points, just one behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, and preserves their flawless home record this season. This recent form, with four consecutive home wins, has propelled them firmly into second place in the standings.
Boitumelo Radiopane opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing a move he started by setting up Oswin Appollis. Appollis saw his long-range effort saved by goalkeeper Ira Tapé, but Radiopane was quickest to react. "I directed my long-range attempt on target but could not find a way past goalkeeper Ira Tapé," Appollis said afterwards.
Head coach Jose Riveiro introduced Tshepang Moremi at half-time, and the substitute needed only five minutes to double the lead, tapping in from close range. The third goal arrived in the 76th minute when another substitute, Kabelo Kgositsile, combined with Simphiwe Masilela, who finished from a tight angle. "I finished at a tight angle to grab my first senior goal after linking up with Kabelo Kgositsile," Masilela said. The contributions from the bench are reflected in the team's overall stats for the campaign.
Defensive solidity
The clean sheet was the team's sixth in the league this term, a foundation for their rise to second place. Sipho Chaine was tested only once seriously, saving from Sedwyn George in the first half. The backline, featuring Nkosinathi Sibisi and Lebone Seema, remained organised throughout as the visitors managed 59% possession but created little.
With the victory, Orlando Pirates have now won four consecutive home matches in Soweto. Their next challenge is the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Kaizer Chiefs at home on 31 October, a fixture that is already highlighted on the club's fixtures list. The team will hope their current momentum and a full squad can see them through this key encounter.

Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou confirmed Thalente Mbatha was rested as a precaution after the MTN8 final. The midfielder had recently returned from surgery. "We don't want to take any risks with Mbatha," Ouaddou said. The decision came after his return in the 0-2 final defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on October 10. The Buccaneers, who are 2nd with 22 points, beat TS Galaxy 3-0 on October 13.
